asked the Minister for Health the number of persons awaiting neuro-surgery in each of the health board hospitals; and the average waiting period for such surgery in each health board area.

There are three centres in the State where neuro-surgery is carried out. These are: Beaumont Hospital, Dublin; St. Vincent's Hospital, Dublin; and Cork Regional Hospital. Information on the number of persons awaiting such surgery and the average waiting times is given in the following table.

These figures include patients for investigation and, if necessary, treatment.

Arrangements for the transfer of neuro-surgical services from St. Vincent's Hospital to Beaumont Hospital are at an advanced stage.
