Vol. 394 No. 6

Written Answers. - Dublin Patient Transport Facilities.

128.

asked the Minister for Health if transport will be arranged for a person (details supplied) in Dublin to the day centre for sufferers of Alzheimer's disease in Blackrock, County Dublin as there is no day centre for sufferers on the north side of Dublin and the person concerned has great difficulty in reaching the clinic from his home on the north side of Dublin.

I have had inquiries made of the Eastern Health Board and I have been informed that the person referred to by the Deputy was assessed by the Eastern Health Board's psychogeriatric service in April 1989. He was referred to the day hospital at St. Vincent's Hospital, Fairview, where he attended on a twice weekly basis. Transport was provided to the day hospital by the Eastern Health Board. This arrangement discontinued following a request by the person's family but he continues to be visited regularly by a nurse from the board's psychogeriatric team.

I have already indicated to the Deputy in the course of a reply to a question put down by him for answer on Tuesday, 12 December 1989 that I have asked the Eastern Health Board to investigate the possibility of making a suitable premises available on the north side of Dublin to the Alzheimer Society of Ireland for use as a day care facility. However, the provision of additional day care facilities and transport are not issues which arise in this particular case.
