Vol. 394 No. 6

Written Answers. - Teacher Redeployment.

134.

asked the Minister for Education if she will outline her policy on redeployment in so far as it affects the Holy Faith secondary school, Dublin 8; if her attention has been drawn to the fact that this school lost nine teachers through redeployment in June 1988; whether she intends to redeploy another six of the school's staff in the near future; and whether the school is entitled to disadvantaged status.

At present my Department are paying salary, etc., to three permanent teachers in excess of teacher quota in this school. In addition, the equivalent of more than one full time teacher has been sanctioned in part time teaching hours.

In June 1988 seven teachers in excess of teacher quota regulations were redeployed from Holy Faith secondary school, Dublin 8, under the terms of the redeployment scheme agreed for lay teachers in Catholic secondary schools. One teacher was granted voluntary redundancy and one resigned.

Due to falling enrolments, this school has six teachers on the redeployment panel for 1990-91. It is, of course, open to the school management to appeal against any of these proposed redeployments, in accordance with the terms of the redeployment scheme.

Disadvantaged area posts were sanctioned for certain selected schools in 1988-89. A further allocation of such posts is not envisaged at this time. In any event, the granting of such a post to Holy Faith secondary school, if justifiable on the basis of my Department's criteria of disadvantaged area schools, would have made no material difference to the situation in which the school finds itself.
