Vol. 394 No. 6

Written Answers. - Buildings' Preservation.

43.

asked the Minister for the Environment whether the legislation at present in place is adequate to protect buildings listed for preservation under the various local authority development plans; and whether it is his intention to put legislation before the Houses of the Oireachtas to strengthen the powers which local authorities at present have to deal with these matters.

Appropriate powers are available under the Local Government (Planning and Development) Acts to facilitate the preservation of buildings of artistic, architectural or historic interests. The Local Government (Planning and Development) (No. 2) Bill, 1988, currently before the Oireachtas, will further improve the situation in this regard.
