Ceist:36 Mr. T. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Health the number of new medical cards issued for the first time in 1989.

As the chief executive officer of a health board is the sole person responsible for the granting of a medical card to an individual, I have asked each CEO to supply the figures requested by the Deputy.
However, I have been informed by the boards that it is not possible to supply the figures within the time available.
Therefore, I undertake to forward the figures to the Deputy as soon as they become available.
