Vol. 395 No. 1

Written Answers. - Kilkenny Hospital.

Phil Hogan

Ceist:

137 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Health if he will sanction the building of an extension to St. Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny, in view of the continuous problem of over-crowding in that hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Overcrowding has been a feature of this hospital for many years. In July 1988, I met a deputation from the South-Eastern Health Board and accepted that the provision of additional facilities at St. Luke's Hospital would have to be treated as a priority. Approval has now been given for the development project at the hospital to proceed to Stage 5 planning.

This development provides for the provision of new operating theatres, additional beds, a delivery suite and ancillary work.
