Vol. 395 No. 1

Written Answers. - Knocklyon Post-Primary School Site.

Alan Shatter

Ceist:

19 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Education whether it is proposed to sell the site purchased for the building of Knocklyon post-primary school, Dublin 16, for house development purposes or whether it is intended to retain the site; and whether, in light of the increased population in the Knocklyon area and in light of recent planning permissions granted for the building of housing estates, she will review the decision previously made to cancel the building of the school.

No decision has been taken by me on the disposal or future use of the site in question.

My Department are aware of housing developments in the Knocklyon area. However, the proposed developments are not on a scale which would warrant the construction of a further post-primary school. Demand for post primary accommodation arising from the proposed housing will not materialise until the first decade of the next century. At that stage the incidence of surplus accommodation at post-primary level will be even greater than at present.
My Department will, however, continue to monitor the post-primary needs of the Scholarstown Road area.
