46 Mr. Sherlock asked the Minister for Defence the total number of motor vehicles used by the Defence Forces; the proportion of these which are more than four years old; the plans there are for the replacement of older vehicles; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
The Defence Forces transport fleet at present comprises 1,425 vehicles of which some 1,250 vehicles are over four years old.
A phased programme for the replacement of obsolete vehicles commenced in 1988 with the purchase of 48 new vehicles and it is intended that about 130 new vehicles will be acquired during 1990.
