Vol. 395 No. 4

Written Answers. - Alleged Illegal Use of Irish Passports.

Eric J. Byrne

Ceist:

51 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if the Government has received any explanation from the US authorities regarding the reported illegal use of Irish passports by a US group headed by the former US National Security Adviser during a visit to Iran in May, 1986; if it is intended to request the US authorities to take any action against those involved in the illegal use of Irish passports; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I would refer the Deputy to the answers given to previous questions on this subject. To date, no new information has become available although I did raise the matter with senior representatives of the US State Department during my visit to Washington in September. Our Embassy will, as indicated earlier, continue to monitor the situation.
