Vol. 395 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Office of Public Works.

Michael Noonan

Ceist:

3 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Finance the financial implications for the 1990 Estimates for the Office of Public Works if the Government decide to implement the recommendations of the Price Waterhouse consultants' report on the Office of Public Works.

John Connor

Ceist:

13 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for Finance the action he proposes to take in light of the special consultants' report on the role of the Office of Public Works; and if he will make a statement on the future of that office.

Tomás MacGiolla

Ceist:

37 Tomás Mac Giolla asked the Minister for Finance if the Government have received the report of the consultants (details supplied) on the Office of Public Works; if it is intended to publish the report; if he will outline the Government's plans for the future of the Office of Public Works; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 3, 13 and 37 together.

A report by Price Waterhouse on their review of the Office of Public Works was received very recently in my Department. The report is being examined at present. Until decisions are reached on the recommendations in the report, I am not in a position to make a statement on the future role of the office or to set out the financial implications of implementing the recommendations. No decision has been taken yet regarding the publication of the report.

(Limerick East): When does the Minister think he will be in a position to make a statement to the House on the matter?

The report was submitted only very recently. It is being examined in the Department. It has not even come to me yet. I will be taking the report to Government in due course and I will make a statement at the earliest possible opportunity.

(Limerick East): Thank you.
