14 Mr. Harte asked the Minister for the Marine if he will make a statement on the future needs of Rathmullan pier, County Donegal; if he has received a report from Donegal County Council; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
A request for grant assistance towards maintenance work at Rathmullan pier was made to my Department by Donegal County Council, the body responsible for its maintenance.
I have recently established a Fishery Harbour Development Committee within my Department to recommend criteria for assessing the various requests for grant aid towards harbour development in the fishery interest. The committee has written to all coastal local authorities, including Donegal County Council, seeking proposals in order of priority, for works which they consider would be justified and for which they will be seeking grant aid. Donegal County Council's response in the matter is awaited.
I have asked the Fishery Harbour Development Committee to give consideration to the needs of Rathmullan pier in the context of Donegal County Council's reply, when it is received.
