21 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for the Marine if he expects any reductions in Irish fishing quotas in 1990; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
I do not anticipate any reductions in Irish fishing quotas this year. Indeed, I will be actively looking at the possibility of quota increases. I am very hopeful that updated scientific stock assessments, due in May, will be favourable and supportive of the case for such increases which I would hope to press at the Council of Fisheries Ministers in June.
