Further investigations are necessary in this case before a decision can be made in regard to eligibility for payment. It is hoped to being these investigations to a speedy conclusion so that the decision can be made as quickly as possible.

Depopulation grants amounting to £5,040 due to the person named have been paid. Reactor grants amounting to £13,850 will be paid in the near future.

Ceist:121 Mr. Crowley asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food whether a headage grant payment has been issued to a person (details supplied) in County Cork; the reason for the delay in issuing payment; if he will give an assurance that the delay which occurred last year will not recur this year; and if the delay in this case has been exceptionally long.
Payments have been made already to this applicant under the 1989 sheep headage and ewe premium schemes.
Payments under the 1989 cattle and equines headage and special beef premium schemes are being processed and will issue shortly.
There is no particular delay in issuing 1989 payments in this case and the delay which occurred last year arose because a query on land ownership had to be resolved satisfactorily before payments could be made.

Ceist:122 Mr. Crowley asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when a headage grant payment will issue to a person (details supplied) in County Cork; the reason for the delay in issuing payments to those who will not be inspected for headage grants this year; and whether he is satisfied with the present progress of payment.
This applicant received a 70 per cent advance payment under the 1989 cattle and equines headage scheme in December 1989. Payments covering the balance due under that scheme and the full amounts due under the 1989 calf and special beef premium schemes are being processed and will issue shortly.
Applicants whose herds have not been inspected under the 1989 cattle and equines headage scheme have already received 70 per cent advance payments under that scheme and will receive the balances due over a period of one to two months as their payments are processed. I am aware that the rate at which payments are being made this year may be somewhat slower than in previous years and I am examining ways and means of bringing about an improvement.
