Ceist:12 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Labour the number of redundancies notified to his Department in (a) January 1989 and (b) January 1990; and the average number for each month in 1989.

The numbers of proposed redundancies notified to my Department under the Redundancy Payments Acts in January 1989 and January 1990 were 1,388 and 817 respectively, that is a decrease of 571 or 41.14 per cent. The total number of redundancies notified to my Department in the full year 1989 was 13,395, giving an average of 1,116 for each month of that year. The individual monthly figures ranged from 733 in August to 1,455 in May, 1989.
Did I hear the Minister say that the figure for January 1990 was 1,200?
The figure for January was 817.
