Ceist:39 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Energy whether he supports EC policies promoting full transparency of costs and cost based pricing in the energy sector; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am not aware of any EC proposals or obligations requiring member states to promote transparency of costs and cost based pricing in the energy sector. However, the Deputy may have in mind, a draft council directive to improve the transparency of gas and electricity prices charged to industrial end users. This proposal is under discussion at present and full agreement by all member states is not envisaged for some time. I have indicated my support at the Council of Ministers for the proposal.
