Vol. 396 No. 2

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

134 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he will outline his response to the decision of the Southern Health Board to refuse to pay arrears to a person (details supplied) in Cork who is in receipt of a disabled person's maintenance allowance; if he will ensure that an investigation into the case will be carried out, having regard to the fact that the person concerned was told by the Southern Health Board that they would not pay retrospective payment in relation to the disabled person's maintenance allowance; and to the fact that the Southern Health Board refused to hand over the person's allowance book thereby forcing him to travel and wait for almost an hour to be paid each week.

Payment of disabled person's maintenance allowance in any individual case is a matter for the health board concerned. Accordingly, the Deputy's question has been referred to the chief executive officer, Southern Health Board, with a request that he examine the matter and reply directly to the Deputy.
