Vol. 396 No. 3

Written Answers. - Opening of Train Stations.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

237 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if, coinciding with the opening this summer of the four new stations on the Maynooth line, namely Cabra, Castleknock, Coolmine and Confey Leixlip, funding will be provided to ensure a double line to Maynooth.

I am informed by Iarnród Éireann that the rail line from Connolly Station to Clonsilla is double track and that from Clonsilla to Maynooth is single track. The company do not have plans to provide a double track from Clonsilla to Maynooth.

Jim Mitchell

Ceist:

238 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if he has received an application from Córas Iompair Éireann for capital funds for new suburban stations at (a) Clondalkin, Dublin 22, (b) Cherry Orchard, Dublin 20, (c) Kylemore Road, Ballyfermot, Dublin 10, (d) Inchicore, Dublin 20, (e) Conyngham Road, Dublin 8, (f) North Circular Road near McKee Barracks, Dublin 7, (g) Cabra, Dublin 7, and (h) Drumcondra, Dublin 9; if any funds will be made available this year to undertake the opening of these stations; the rolling stock which will be used on this service; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Iarnród Éireann's proposal for the construction of eight new railway stations at Clondalkin, Cherry Orchard, Ballyfermot, Inchicore, a new Heuston suburban station, the Phoenix Park, Cabra and Drumcondra on the line from Clondalkin to the city is included in the transport operational programme under the National Development Plan 1989-1993 for assistance from the European Communities Structural Funds. The rolling stock needed for the operation of the proposed services forms part of the proposal. The matter will be considered further in the light of the outcome of the application to the Commission of the European Communities.
