Bernard Allen

Ceist:

131 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education if she has received any requests from parents in the Riverstown area of Cork to meet her to discuss the inadequacy of second level education in that area.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 129 and 131 together.

The planning section of my Department recently completed a review of post-primary facilities in Cork city and environs based on the most up to date primary and post-primary enrolments. In the light of that review it is the view of my Department that the provision of a new post-primary school in Riverstown-Glanmire is not warranted at present.

The question of ordering a further review of the situation regarding a second level school for the area by the Advisory Council on Post-Primary Education in Cork city area does not, therefore, arise. However, my Department will continue to monitor closely the situation as it develops in Riverstown-Glanmire.
