19 Mr. T. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for the Environment the number of applicants currently awaiting driving tests in Cork city and county; the average waiting time for each applicant; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There are at present 4,569 applications for driving tests on hands for the Cork region. This represents a waiting period for a test of about 28 weeks.

The situation in Cork, as elsewhere in the country, will improve significantly when the additional driver testers, currently being recruited, have been trained and brought into the system.
