Vol. 396 No. 4

Written Answers. - Dublin Corporation Housing.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

24 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the assessment of housing needs submitted to him by Dublin Corporation was seriously deficient in that it omitted all reference to the thousands of families living in overcrowded and substandard conditions in the corporation's own flat complexes; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In accordance with section 9 of the Housing Act, 1988 each housing authority undertook an assessment of the need for the provision of local authority accommodation within its area on 30 September 1989. In making such assessments, housing authorities were required, inter alia, to have regard to the need for housing of persons who are living in accommodation that is unfit for human habitation or is materially unsuitable for their adequate accommodation or who are living in overcrowded conditions.

I have no reason to believe that Dublin Corporation failed to carry out their assessment in a proper manner in accordance with the required procedures.
