Vol. 396 No. 4

Written Answers. - Shannon, Clare, Town Status.

Madeleine Taylor-Quinn

Ceist:

50 Mrs. Taylor-Quinn asked the Minister for the Environment if he will grant urban district council status to the town of Shannon, County Clare, in order that the management of the town may be taken over by an urban district council and that such a council would replace the town commissioners; and the plans, if any, he has regarding the administration of local government in Shannon.

I am reviewing the status of Shannon Town within the local government system in the light of the proposed transfer of services from Shannon Development Company. The question of UDC status will be examined in this context and with regard to the special circumstances of Shannon Town.
