Vol. 396 No. 9

Written Answers. - Dublin Hospital Appointment Delay.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

170 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Health if he is concerned that a person (details supplied) in Dublin 7 who attended Hume Street Hospital, Dublin 2 for an appointment on 5 March 1990 was told that the earliest appointment that could be made would be 25 June 1990; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The scheduling of an out-patient appointment is a matter for the clinical judgment of the consultant concerned. In this case the patient referred to by the Deputy has been given an appointment for June next. The position is that many skin conditions do not require very urgent treatment and can often be cared for by a general practitioner. However, if this patient feels that he needs more immediate attention I would advise him to make contact with his own general practitioner who could, if necessary, arrange an earlier appointment for him with his consultant in Hume Street.
