Vol. 396 No. 9

Written Answers. - EC Foreign Ministers' Meetings.

Gerry O'Sullivan

Ceist:

27 Mr. G. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will outline the arrangements for any further meetings of EC Foreign Ministers during the remainder of the Irish Presidency of the EC.

The Council of Ministers, consisting of the Ministers for Foreign Affairs, will meet as usual once per month. These meetings will take place on 2 April in Luxembourg, 7 May in Brussels and 18 June in Luxembourg. On this last occasion Ministers will also meet within the framework of European Political Co-operation.

The Presidency has proposed a special one-day informal meeting of Foreign Ministers on 21 April to examine the issues for consideration at the informal Summit of Heads of State or Government scheduled for 28 April. Foreign Ministers will also participate at this extraordinary meeting as well as at the European Council on 25-26 June.

New dates will be sought for the traditional "Gymnich"— meeting, an informal weekend meeting of Foreign Ministers, which has had to be deferred because of these extra meetings called by the Presidency on account of the rapidly-developing situation in Central and Eastern Europe.
