Vol. 397 No. 3

Written Answers. - Milk Quotas.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

37 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the number of applications for addition on new milk quotas under the following categories: (a) new entrants (b) young farmers under 35 years of age and (c) special category producers; and the names and addresses of each applicant.

The number of applications from new entrants i.e., young farmers under 35 years of age with appropriate educational and training qualifications is approximately 2,400. The number of applications from small scale producers (i.e., with quotas below 12,800 gallons) is about 20,000. In both cases, Departmental checks indicate that the final number of eligible applicants will be less than those figures.

It would neither be practical nor appropriate for me to give the names and addresses of the individuals concerned.
