50 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the number of projects assisted by the IDA; the number of jobs created in the expansion of existing manufacturing enterprises in each of the years from 1985 to 1990, inclusive; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Details of individual projects assisted by the IDA are contained in Part 2 — details of capital expenditure — of the authority's annual report, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library. Details in respect of 1989 and 1990 will be published in due course in the reports for those years.
A breakdown of job creation distinguishing between greenfield and expansions is not readily available. To provide the figures requested by the Deputy would necessitate a detailed search of each company file to identify whether gains related to a greenfield or to an expansion project as this information is not covered in the IDA's annual employment survey. It is estimated, however, that the average ratio of job gains arising from expansions to those arising from greenfield projects was of the order of 3 : 2 over the period 1985 to 1989.
