Written Answers. - PRSI Exemption Scheme.

Ceist:

61 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of employers who have taken advantage of the PRSI exemption scheme; if the target of 5,000 additional jobs would be yielded by employers' exemption from having to pay the employers' contribution for the tax year 1991 in respect of employees taken on between 23 October 1989 and 28 February, 1990.

To date, applications from 700 employers, in respect of 1,044 employees, have been approved under the employers' PRSI exemption scheme. A small number of applications have yet to be processed. As a result, the final number of additional jobs will be slightly higher, but the original estimate will not now be realised.
