Vol. 397 No. 5

Written Answers. - Group Water Schemes.

John V. Farrelly

Ceist:

147 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for the Environment the grants which are available for group water schemes in various parts of the country; and if he intends to provide grants for the updating of old schemes for the replacement of pumps, water mains and other maintenance works.

The following group water scheme grants are available: 85 per cent of the cost per supply for schemes in the disadvantaged areas subject to maximum grants of £700 per house and £500 per farm and 66 per cent of the cost per supply in the rest of the country subject to maximum grants of £600 per house and £400 per farm. Higher grants are payable for schemes on islands and in Gaeltacht areas.

In cases where the quality and/or quantity of the water supply has become seriously deficient, group water scheme grants may be approved in respect of essential remedial works including the provision of replacement water mains and associated pumping equipment.
