Vol. 397 No. 5

Written Answers. - School for Mentally Handicapped Person.

Seán Ryan

Ceist:

152 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Health if he will report on the current situation regarding the placement in a suitable school centre for a person (details supplied) in County Dublin who is severely mentally handicapped.

The person involved is on the priority waiting list for day services at St. Michael's House Child Development Centre, Ballymun, Dublin 11. I have recently allocated an additional £1 million for the development of mental handicap services in the Eastern Health Board region; £235,000 of this amount was for the provision of, inter alia, day facilities in St. Michael's House. Assessments for these places are being finalised and placements will be made shortly.
