Ceist:

119 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for Justice if he will give, in respect of the parking fines certificates and motor tax evasion certificates issued to the gardaí by Dublin Corporation for the administrative county of Dublin in each of the years ending 31 December (a) 1987, (b) 1988 and (c) 1989, the amount in fines which was collected for (a) parking fines and (b) tax evasion, on foot of these certificates.

It is assumed that the Deputy is referring to court fines imposed by the courts for the years in question in respect of the nonpayment of fines-on-the-spot notices issued in relation to offences of illegal parking and non-display of current tax disc.

Court statistics in respect of the amount of fines imposed are not compiled in a way that provides the information sought and to produce the information would require the expenditure of an unwarranted amount of staff time and resources.
