Written Answers. - Homelessness in Europe.

Ceist:

87 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for the Environment if he proposes, in the course of his Presidency of the EC Environmental Council, to raise with the other members of the Council problems of the homeless within Europe; the action, if any, which the EC can take to deal with this matter, in view of the conclusions of the European Conference on the Homeless (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Homelessness and related subjects are not ones which come within the ambit of the Environment Council of which I am President and my colleagues on that Council do not generally have responsibility for housing matters. EC Ministers with responsibility for housing matters met in Lille in December 1989 and agreed that a further meeting should take place, if possible, in the latter part of 1990.
