Vol. 397 No. 7

Written Answers. - Hospital Chaplains.

Patrick McCartan

Ceist:

89 Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for Health whether any chaplains functioning in hospitals or institutions which are funded out of his Department's Votes are paid any salary or stipend, either directly or indirectly out of moneys provided by his Department; if he will give an estimate of the number of such persons; and if he will give an estimate of the aggregate current annualised payroll or other cost to the State.

Stipends are paid by various agencies in respect of chaplaincy services. These stipends are in respect of the service commitment rather than the number of individuals involved in the service.

In view of the situation, the information sought by the Deputy is not readily available. However, I will communicate with the Deputy as soon as the relevant information comes to hand.
