Vol. 397 No. 9

Written Answers. - RTE Transmission Signal.

Phil Hogan

Ceist:

212 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Communications if his attention has been drawn to the fact that RTE coverage is not available to residents in Carrigmourne, Thomastown, County Kilkenny; when RTE will initiate the promised pilot scheme for this area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

This is primarily a matter for RTE. RTE are aware of reception difficulties in the area of Carrigmourne, Thomastown, County Kilkenny. They report that in the normal programme of coverage extension they would not be in a position to service this area with a transposer for a number of years. However, should the local community show interest in a self-help TV scheme, RTE will carry out a feasibility study and meet with representatives to discuss same.

RTE are at present proceeding with tests for a self-help TV scheme for the Innistiogue area and in conjunction with this work they will do a preliminary investigation of the Carrigmourne area.
