Vol. 397 No. 9

Written Answers. - Waterford Road Improvement Programme.

Austin Deasy

Ceist:

217 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make moneys available to Waterford Corporation for the construction of a dual carriageway at Terminal Street, Sallypark, Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I understand that the corporation are considering the improvement of the N9 at Sallypark in a number of stages.

In January 1990 the local authority submitted an amended preliminary report from their consultant relating to a proposed new bridge to carry road traffic over the railway near Plunkett station. The corporation also requested that the consultant's brief be extended to prepare a preliminary report on the entire N9 improvement scheme at Sallypark/Terminus Street. These matters are at present under examination in the Department.
The planning of major road improvement projects in the period 1990 to 1993 has been considered in the context of the preparation of an operational programme for roads and other transport infrastructure. A draft of the programme, which has been prepared in accordance with the community support framework for Ireland, has been submitted to the EC Commission. Pending finalisation of the programme, it is not proposed to indicate the major schemes to be undertaken in the period up to 1993.
