Ceist:289 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Health the action he has taken to date to advance Ireland's Green Presidency of the EC Council, as promised by the Taoiseach in January 1990; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Irish Presidency work programme in the health field falls into two broad categories: on-going work of the Health Council notably in the area of tobacco legislation, anti-cancer programmes and activities in the AIDS and drug abuse fields; and new initiatives which I am taking in the area of youth and positive health aimed at improving awareness about health amongst our young people and at promoting positive lifestyles with a particular focus on tobacco consumption, alcohol, drug abuse and AIDS.
In addition my Department are involved in the internal market area in dossiers relating to foodstuffs and pharmaceutical products.
