Vol. 397 No. 9

Written Answers. - Home Economics Teacher Training.

John Bruton

Ceist:

325 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education if she proposes to take decisions in regard to the reduction of the number of places for the training of home economics teachers in advance of the presentation to her and publication of the OECD report on teacher supply; and, if so, the reason.

The demand for home economics teachers is kept under ongoing review by my Department in consultation with the home economics teacher training colleges.

An intake of 50 students to home economics training colleges has been agreed for 1990.

The position will continue to be under review. I am not in a position at this time to say when any further decision will be taken on the matter.
