Vol. 398 No. 1

Written Answers. - Ballyfermot (Dublin) Social Security Office.

Austin Currie

Ceist:

140 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Social Welfare when the new social security office in Ballyfermot, Dublin 10, will open; the number of people who will be employed there; the type of payments which will be made from the office; the number of people who are expected to avail of its services on a weekly or monthly basis; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Construction work on the new social welfare services office in Ballyfermot is due to be completed by the middle of this month. Following final fitting out and other preparatory work, it is anticipated that the office will open for business before the end of June.

When it becomes operational, the new office will service about 3,500 claims to unemployment payments (under both the benefit and assistance schemes) from persons resident in the Dublin 10 and 20 postal areas. Total staff employed in the office will be in the range of 25 to 30.

The office will provide a more general information service from the initial stage. It will also accept medical certificates submitted in conjunction with disability benefit claims from July or August 1990.

Liam Hyland

Ceist:

142 Mr. Hyland asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will make a decision regarding the application for an increased old age pension of a person (details supplied) in County Carlow.

The application of the person concerned for an increase in old age pension has been successful. His weekly rate of pension has been increased from £19.90 to £85.90 with effect from 20 October 1989.

The person concerned has been requested to return his pension book to my Department. When this is received the higher rate pension will be put into payment and arrears issued.
