Vol. 398 No. 1

Written Answers. - Re-engagement of Former State Employees.

Peter Barry

Ceist:

147 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Justice if, since 1989, any former State employees have been engaged, either permanently or on contract, by his Department; and if so, if he will give (i) their names, (ii) the terms of their employment or contract, (iii) the salary being paid to them and (iv) the pension, if any, payable to them from the State.

The total number of former State employees who have been engaged either permanently or on contract since 1 January 1989 by my Department is two. One of these persons was appointed as Government Inspector of Explosives on a contract basis for the period 21 March to 31 August 1989, and was paid £7,226.60 for that work in addition to his annual pension of £12,769.08. The other person who retired with effect from 20 April 1990 has been employed as an usher to a judge of the High Court with effect from 23 April 1990. The salary and allowances attaching to that post amounts to £177.03 per week. An application for superannuation benefits has not yet been received from that person.
