Vol. 398 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dublin Hospital Registrar Appointment.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

29 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the difficulties in the appointment of a registrar in the cardiac department of St. James's Hospital, Dublin 8; if he will take steps to expedite this appointment; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am pleased to tell the Deputy that the problems have been resolved and the registrar has taken up duty. On receipt of the details regarding the particular difficulties being experienced by the hospital, I had representations made to the other Government Departments concerned in the issue of work permits and residence permits. As a result, the problem was resolved. My Department has recently reminded hospital authorities of the need to ensure that, whenever possible, the requirements for issue of work permits are met well in advance of the date of all proposed appointments.
