Vol. 398 No. 1

Written Answers. - Mammography Machine.

John V. Farrelly

Ceist:

62 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Health if he is considering proposals put to him by representatives of the Irish Countrywomen's Association for the provision of funding for the staffing of a mammography machine provided by the association at Our Lady's Hospital, Navan, County Meath; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Provision of funding for the staffing of a mammography diagnostic screening unit at Our Lady's Hospital, Navan, is a matter for the North-Eastern Health Board in the first instance having regard to all the demands made on the health service provision in that area.

Diagnostic mammography services are available to women from the North-Eastern Health Board area at present on referral by their general practitioner or by their consultant.

Discussions are on-going between my Department, the North-Eastern Health Board and the Mater Foundation in relation to proposals for the establishment of some screening services in the North-Eastern Health Board area.
