Written Answers. - Re-engagement of Former State Employees.

Ceist:

82 Mr. Barry asked the Taoiseach if, since 1989, any former State employees have been engaged, either permanently or on contract, by his Department; if so, if he will give (i) their names (ii) the terms of their employment or contract (iii) the salary being paid to them and (iv) the pension, if any, payable to them from the State.

The following schedule sets out the details requested by the Deputy in respect of my Departments.

Total Remuneration in 1990 inc. pension

(1)

Special Adviser to the Taoiseach for the duration of the Government's term of office.

£40,011 per annum, pension will be payable at age 60.

(2)

Special Adviser to the Taoiseach on Environmental Affairs for the duration of Ireland's Presidency of the E.C.

£23,150, fee and pension for 6 months.

(3)

Employment on contract to examine Department files covered by the National Archives Act.

£21,850.12, fee for 20 days employment and annual pension in 1989. Not engaged in 1990.

(4)

Two Marketing Consultants for the International Financial Services Centre.

(i) 30,331.82(ii) 28,780.04Fees and pensions for 1989. Not engaged in 1990.

(5) In respect of the Central Statistics Office, no former State employee was engaged on permanent work since 1989.
Persons who were former State employees may be included amongst those recruited from time to time on temporary survey work since applicants for this work are generally nominated by FÁS and appointed following competitive interview.
While the Central Statistics Office is aware that some former State employees were engaged on temporary survey work since 1989 the specific information requested is not available.
