Vol. 398 No. 6

Written Answers. - Wildfowl Shooting.

Dick Spring

Ceist:

29 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Finance if he will introduce a prohibition order to restrict or prohibit the shooting of woodcock, grouse, snipe, duck, teal, widgeon, pochard and golden eye.

The inclusion of any game species on the open season's list for hunting is reviewed annually having regard to the conservation requirements of each species.

At this stage there is no scientific evidence that these species are under serious threat from shooting pressure. However the position will be kept under review and borne in mind when the open season's list ofr 1990/91 is being considered later in the year.
