Vol. 398 No. 6

Written Answers. - National Lottery Act.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

41 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance if he intends issuing any direction under section 29 of the National Lottery Act, 1986 whereby rehab lotteries and the national lottery could operate on an equal footing on terms of statutory requirements and administration; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The National Lottery Act, 1986, was introduced specifically to differentiate between the national lottery and other lotteries covered by the Gaming and Lotteries Act, 1956.

I am happy that the national lottery is being operated by An Post National Lottery Company in accordance with the licence granted to it by the then Minister for Finance on 7 October 1986.

I have no plans to issue any direction to the company under section 29 of the National Lottery Act, 1986.
