Vol. 398 No. 8

Written Answers. - Student Levels.

John Bruton

Ceist:

168 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education if she will list the schools in County Meath where the maximum allowable of students per class teacher in primary schools exceeds the legal limit of 39.

The school authorities, in particular the principal teacher, are responsible for arranging the organisation of the school so as to ensure that no class-group exceeds 39 in the case of a single grade class-group; 38 in the case of a class-group with two consecutive grades and 35 in the case of a multi grade class-group.

In all cases of national schools in County Meath, where my Department were satisfied that it was impossible for the principal teacher to arrange classes in such a way as to remain within these guidelines, an additional teacher was approved to ensure conformity with them.
