John Bruton

Ceist:

175 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education the action she has taken on foot of the motion passed in Dáil Éireann regarding the provision of improved second level school facilities in the Kingswood-Kilnamanagh areas of Dublin 24.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 174 and 175 together.

The present position regarding the proposed post-primary school for the Kingswood Heights-Kilnamanagh areas of Tallaght is that in view of the considerable amount of capital expenditure required to provide the school, the strict limitation of funding available to my Department and the large number of cases requiring urgent attention, I am not in a position to say when work will commence on the school.

The most recent review of the Castleview-Kilnamanagh area, completed last February, has concluded that there are sufficient pupil places available at present in schools in areas within a reasonable distance of the Kilnamanagh-Castleview areas to cater for post-primary pupils from those areas.

I have received a request to meet a deputation regarding this matter. I do intend to meet the deputation at a suitable date and time and I will ask my office to make the appropriate arrangements when my schedule permits.
