Vol. 398 No. 8

Written Answers. - Employment of Disabled Persons.

Frank Crowley

Ceist:

58 Mr. Crowley asked the Minister for Finance the number of physically handicapped people currently employed in the public service; and if he will lift the Civil Service recruitment embargo to allow physically handicapped people to have a better opportunity of obtaining employment.

While the Minister for Labour has responsibility for the quota scheme for the employment of disabled persons in the public service the latest figures available show that, at 31 December 1988, there were 455 such persons employed in the Civil Service. There will be some recruitment to the Civil Service this year and disabled persons will be among those who will be offered positions.
