Vol. 398 No. 10

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Office.

Colm M. Hilliard

Ceist:

140 Mr. Hilliard asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will give consideration to opening a social welfare office in the village of Drumconrath, County Meath, to cover the needs of people who have to travel to Ardee and Kingscourt to sign on and collect their social welfare payments; and that premises could be made available to his Department if the establishment of an office was sanctioned.

At present there are some 98 people from the Drumconrath area who sign the unemployed register. Fifty one of these attend my Department's branch office in Ardee once a week to sign the unemployed register and receive payment. The remaining 47 people sign the unemployed register at either Nobber or Kingscourt Garda station each Tuesday and they receive payment via their local post office later in the week. These arrangements are regarded as satisfactory.
