Vol. 398 No. 10

Written Answers. - Wexford Paediatric Services.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

195 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Health, in light of the recent decisions of the South Eastern Health Board to reaffirm its policy of appointing a consultant paediatrician to Wexford General Hospital, if he will ensure that sufficient funding is provided to make a speedy appointment.

The provision of paediatric services for Wexford is a matter for the South Eastern Health Board in the first instance.

I am not entirely happy with the current arrangements for paediatric services in the South Eastern Health Board. I understand that the Board will shortly be putting proposals to my Department for the appointment of a consultant paediatrician at Wexford General Hospital in the light of a motion recently adopted by the Board on the matter.

I will certainly consider these proposals as soon as possible in consultation with Comhairle na nOspidéal.
