Vol. 398 No. 10

Written Answers. - Post of Director of Consumer Affairs.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

31 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce when it is intended to fill the vacancy for the position of Director of Consumer Affairs; if the interviews will be held under the auspices of the Civil Service Commission; if it is intended to have any consumer representative on the interview panel; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Arrangements for the filling of the post of Director of Consumer Affairs and Fair Trade are well advanced.

In accordance with the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 1978, and following the advertising of the vacancy in the national newspapers on 31 March 1990, the Civil Service Commissioners are at present in the process of holding interviews to select a suitable candidate to fill the post.

I am not in a position to comment on the composition of the interview panel as this is a matter for the Civil Service Commission.

When the selection process has been completed by the Civil Service Commission, I will then be in a position to announce the appointment of a new director.
