Vol. 398 No. 10

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding.

Proinsias De Rossa

Ceist:

75 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Finance if any consideration has been given to the allocation of national lottery funding to the Consumers Association of Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Under the terms of the National Lottery Act 1986 the lottery surplus may be applied for the purposes of sports and other recreation, national culture, including the Irish language, the arts and the health of the community, and such other purposes as the Government may determine from time to time. Since the passing of the Act, the Government have decided to add youth, amenity and welfare projects to the list of purposes for which the surplus may be used.

While the Government have made no specific allocation for the Consumers' Association of Ireland, the association may apply for lottery funding for those of its activities which fall within the designated areas. Application should be made to the Minister responsible for each area.
