Ceist:

79 Mr. O'Toole asked the Minister for Finance the level of EC moneys which have been spent in each county since joining the EC in 1973; and if a breakdown of same will be given.

If the Deputy is referring to all EC moneys, the information requested is not available in my Department.

In so far as the European Regional Development Fund is concerned, as I have indicated in reply to similar questions in the past my Department's records are not in a format that would allow payments to be broken down by county. The compilation of such information would absorb an excessive amount of staff time and would not be justified.

Information on commitments by county is available and is set out in the schedule which is being circulated in the Official Report for each year since 1975 when the fund was established. The table does not take account of non-quota measures such as the special Border areas' programme and the textiles programme since these are multi-regional and cannot be broken down on a county basis. The National Programme of Community Interest — Roads Development in Ireland 1986-90, the STAR and VALOREN programmes and certain telecommunications projects are not included as they also are multi-regional.

Regional Fund commitments from 1 January 1989 are made in accordance with the Community Support Framework and a county breakdown is not available.
